manager Nicky Law was a youth at Arsenal before a very varied 500
plus games playing career with eight clubs. He has managed at
Chesterfield, Bradford City, Grimsby Town and Buxton before joining
Alfreton in 2007.

Brief
Directions by Road
Leave
the M1 at junction 28 and take the A38 towards Derby. After around
two miles look out for and take the B600 signposted Alfreton. After
half a mile on this the Nottingham road you will see Christ the King
Catholic Church on your left. Turn left here into North Street for
the ground.
Car
Parking
There
is a small car park at the ground for early arrivals but failing that
street parking is plentiful and early birds should be able to park
very close to the ground.
Directions
by Train Trains from London St Pancras will take around two and
half hours involving a change at Nottingham.
The
ground is a 15 minute walk away from the station. Turn
right onto Mansfield Road. then take the second left into
Prospect Street. At the end of Prospect Street, turn right onto
Nottingham Road, then the second left into Victoria Street
for the ground.
Supporters
Coach
The
supporters coach will leave the Hive at 10 am with earlier pick up
points at Potters Bar Station, Barnet (3 separate places), Whetstone
and Edgware starting at 9 am. The price is £28.00 return.
Eating
and Drinking Locally
There
are two bars inside the ground one for home supporters only if the
game is segregated. However, just outside the entrance to the ground
is the Alfreton Town Supporters Club, which does admit away fans.
The
Victoria Inn (nearest the ground) is a good bet as is the Plough both
to be found on the Nottingham Road.
Inside
the ground the usual fayre awaits but a
spy tells me that the club specialize in a tray of “Chips &
Gravy” - if you like blatant contamination of food I suggest you
try them. “The Full Monty” which often sells out early
incorporates the chips and gravy option above plus meat pie and mushy peas.
Last
Visit and Memories
Our
visit last season was in September 2013 when a Keanu Marsh-Brown goal
was the only cheer in a 3-1 defeat.
Ground
Description
The
Stadium here is one of the smaller grounds we will encounter on our
travels with a capacity of just 3,500. The odd looking Main Stand
comprises three small structures, one of which has standing
facilities called th Tommie Bradley Terrace. Opposite is the similar
Tom
McRoy Stand which is a partially covered seating area running the
length of the pitch. Behind one goal is another small four row seated
area converted from the old terrace called the Bentley Close End. Our
home for the duration will be the Tin end which is a decent sized
terrace with a small cover in the centre. This may change as
segregation may not be in force in which case we will have complete
access to all parts of the ground
The
cover of the stands and the barriers will leave you in no doubt which
colours the “home” team plays in.

My
exhaustive searches have drawn a complete blank when it comes to
“celebrities” from Alfreton, apart from James Young, who patented
a process to obtain oil from coal in 1848 or BBC weather girl Sally
Pepper. Indeed contacts at the club and supporters I
have interacted with say that no one of any note has been born here –
ever! Apart from Wozza the Red who I thank for his assistance with
this guide.
